AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
ASIAN COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH "NEIGHBORHOOD ADVOCATE AWARD"
On May 7, 2009, Refugee Transitions received the "Neighborhood Advocate Award" from Asian Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS) during their 35th Anniversary Gala at the Chabot Space and Science Center. This award honored RT's outstanding service in helping refugee and immigrant families achieve self-sufficiency in the United-States. The award was presented to Laura Vaudreuil, Executive Director, and Zar Ni Maung, Family Advocate.
ACMHS provides multicultural and multilingual services, empowering vulnerable community members to lead healthy, productive and contributing lives. RT recently collaborated with ACMHS during a volunteer training in which ACMHS staff members conducted outreach and education at RT to raise awareness about trauma and the Burmese cultural context in accessing mental health services among staff and volunteers, who are often the first to notice signs of problems during home visits.
