Title: Development Manager
Current Time Commitment: 1 FTE (40 hours/week) with the option of working less (i.e., .70 FTE)
Salary: competitive based on education and experience (with full benefits)
Location: San Francisco (with weekly meetings in Oakland)

Refugee Transitions seeks a Development Manager to lead the fundraising activities of the agency. The Development Manager will be responsible for growing corporate, government and foundation grants as well as supporting our annual giving and major gifts program. We are seeking a self-driven individual who is first and foremost passionate about the work of RT, to lead a team in accomplishing our growing and evolving development needs, and has a desire to join a small but committed team that thrives on making a positive impact within their community.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
-Provide vital input into both the short- and long-term strategy for Refugee Transitions;
-Map out fundraising plan/schedule;
-Conduct grant research, writing, and reporting process for corporate and foundation grants with the support of Refugee Transitions Sr. Development and Communications Coordinator;
-Build relationships, advocate, and maintain networks to ensure funding from government and other sources. Research and engage with partners to apply for local and federal government grants (as a lead and partner agency);
-Manage the daily operations of a small development division to achieve their goals;
-Work with Executive Director to prepare annual budgets and monitor and analyze monthly department budget reports, recommending changes as necessary;
-Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts, and expenditures related to fundraising and the management of the development activities;
-Determine and implement appropriate strategies for retention, upgrade of current donors, and the acquisition of new donors;
-Implement and evolve Refugee Transitions’ current fund development activities and programs through coordination with staff, ED, Board of Directors, and Development Committee;
-Act as Chair of Board of Directors Development Committee (in partnership with the Executive Director);
-Work with the Development Team to execute the annual fundraising and donor cultivation events;
-Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors, and ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives;
-Identify and cultivate potential and existing donors through correspondence, telephone and email communication, and in-person visits;
-Work with Development Team to produce annual report detailing program activities, donors, and financials;
-Engage interns and volunteers for fund development projects, research, etc.;
-Speak on behalf of RT and our clients while serving as liaison between the agency and high-level connections, such as government funders and local leaders.
-Commitment to educational services and refugee/immigrant issues;
-Interest in working with community-based educational programs;
-Experience in nonprofit development and communications;
-Demonstrated record of successful fundraising, including writing grants for government, corporations and foundations;
-Knowledge of private giving trends, foundation grantmaking, and corporate philanthropy;
-Prospect research experience;
-Experience networking, conducting outreach, advocating, and forming relationships with high-level funders, including government funders;
-Knowledge of local philanthropic community foundations and government funders;
-High level of maturity, motivation, and flexibility, as well as a firm commitment and ability to develop high-quality work products;
-Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to work well with a diverse range of individuals, exhibiting diplomacy and good judgment in managing interactions with individuals at all levels inside and outside the organization;
-Substantial experience engaging a senior leadership team, coordinating with staff, and working with Boards and volunteers;
-Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently and self manage to deadlines;
-Flexible schedule and ability to travel within the Bay Area, including the ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary;
-Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to gather, understand, and synthesize information from a variety of sources;
-Ability to multi-task, handle frequent interruptions and competing priorities;
-Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office products and donor databases (preferably with Salesforce).
-Strong organizational, project, budget and time management skills.
-Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is highly desirable.
-Work experience with small nonprofit agencies that leverage large numbers of volunteers with limited staff.
Physical Abilities: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending of the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies.
Special Requirements: Must be able to accept assignments between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The shift assignments may include some evenings and weekends.
