Arpan is a Bhutanese refugee and youth leader. He was born in a refugee camp in Nepal and lived there for 16 years. In 2008, he and his family were resettled in Oakland, CA.

Refugee Transitions assists refugee and immigrant families in becoming self-sufficient in the United States by providing services to help them attain the English language, life, job and academic skills they need to succeed in their new communities.  


2/26/2014 - Refugee Transitions Moves Into New Oakland Office at Clinton Park

This month, our East Bay staff moved into a new office location at Clinton Park in the San Antonio neighborhood of Oakland.  This neighborhood is one of the most diverse areas of Oakland and home to many of our students.  We are very excited to be closer to the families and communities we serve. The site features a classroom, playsite, and annexed park.  Feel free to drop by! We are located in Suite 206, 655 International Blvd., Oakland CA, 94606. 

1/27/2014 - Refugee Transitions Kicks-off 2014 with a Party at Franklin Recreation Center

This past weekend over 80 students, along with staff and volunteers, joined in the fun at our Family Engagement Program at Franklin Recreation Center in Oakland.  In addition to our regular programming, RT staff handed out new water bottles, stickers, and gifts to students and volunteers and everyone celebrated the new year with a giant Chinese lunch!

8/8/2013 - Yahoo! Mobile and Emerging Products supports End-of-Camp Carnival 

A huge "thanks!" to all the volunteers from Yahoo!Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church, and Refugee Transitions who made our end-of-camp carnival such a success. Over 40 RT students from age 4-18 were able to participate in games, enjoy pizza and sno-cones, win prizes, jump in a bounce house, and more!
