Computers & Phones

The Covid-19 crisis has made the digital divide in our communities especially stark. Reliable technology is vital for accessing RIT and other distance learning programs, which help refugee and immigrant families thrive in the U.S. If you would like to donate a computer or phone, please see desired specifications below, and contact Development@reftrans.org.

1. A functional business-class device not older than 3 years old; minimum 5th Generation Intel or AMD Ryzen 5 series Processor.

1.1.   Desktop: 3.4 Ghz processor or higher, Quad Core Intel Processor

1.1.1. Desktop: 1 Gigabit network card

1.2.   Laptop: 1.90-3.4 Ghz or higher, Quad Core Intel Processor

1.2.1. Laptop wireless card: 1 gigabit and bc/ac wireless protocol

1.3.   Tablet: 1.90-3.4 Ghz or higher, Quad Core Intel Processor

1.3.1. Tablet wireless card: 1 gigabit and bc/ac wireless protocol

1.4.   64 bit Windows 10 operating system

1.5.   8 Gigabytes of RAM or higher

1.6.   500 Gigabyte hard drive or greater

2. Functional MacBook Pro/Air or iMac computers not older than 3 years old.

3. Functional unlocked iPhone or Android phone not older than 3 years old.

Other In-kind Donations

We are currently unable to accept donations of clothing, home furniture, or household items. To donate these items, you can contact the following organizations--please read their donation guidelines by clicking the links below:
-- International Rescue Committee (clothing, children’s items, household goods—contact a local office to find out which items are most needed)
-- Jewish Family & Community Services East Bay (household items, furniture, etc.) 
-- La Raza Community Resource Center (new or gently worn clothing, new or slightly used toys, baby diapers, strollers, etc.)
-- Community Thrift (clothing)
